Foresters Start 2007-08 with a Split in Minnesota
Team falls at Gustavus Adolphus, wins at Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team opened the 2007-08 season in Minnesota over the weekend (November 9-10). The Foresters fell 2-0 at Gustavus Adolphus College, the seventh-ranked team I the country, Friday night before prevailing 4-2 at Augsburg College Saturday afternoon. Gustavus Adolphus raised its record to 1-1-0 and Augsburg fell to 0-3-0.

Friday’s game was scoreless through two periods before Gustavus Adolphus converted a power play opportunity just 41 seconds in the third. The Gusties added an insurance goal at the 10:34 mark and held the visitors without a score.

Forester sophomore Ryann McCarthy (Lombard, Ill./Team Illinois) tallied 36 saves in the contest.

Freshman goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ont./St. Thomas Panthers) was victorious in her Lake Forest debut on Saturday. She stopped 27 of 29 Auggie shots on goal.

The Foresters got on the scoreboard first less than three minutes into the contest. Sophomore Megan Patrick scored off assists from classmates Sam Pinsonneault (Manchester, N.H./New Hampton School) and Naomi Paterson (Ingersoll, Ont./London Devilettes). An Auggie power play goal in the final second of the period tied the score going into the first intermission.

Lake Forest regained the lead two-and-a-half minutes into the second period on a power play goal by sophomore Maggie Bresser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Waupun H.S.). She was assisted by freshmen Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) and Ricki Kirsch (Portland, Ore./Northwest Selects). Switaj scored her first career goal on the power play with five minutes left in the period with Kirsch earning her second assist of the contest. An Augsburg goal with less than two minutes left in the frame made the score 3-2 in favor of the Foresters heading into the third.

Senior Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, Ont./Bluewater Sr. Hawks) closed out the scoring with 12:39 left in the game. Her first goal of the year was assisted by classmate Jen Clouthier (Aurora, Ill./Chicago Mission).

The Foresters will open Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play Tuesday (November 13) night at Concordia University Wisconsin. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
