LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team split a weekend series at home against UW-River Falls over the weekend (November 17-18). The Forester won 4-3 Saturday night before falling to the nation’s 10th-ranked team 4-1 Sunday afternoon. Lake Forest is now 3-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Falcons are now 2-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the league.

The Foresters took the early lead on Saturday on a goal by sophomore Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) at 6:27 of the opening period. Seniors Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, Ont./Bluewater Sr. Hawks) and Jen Clouthier (Aurora, Ill./Chicago Mission) assisted on Bean’s first score of the season. The home team’s lead doubled when freshmen Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) scored a shorthanded and unassisted goal at 12:20. It was her team-high fourth score of the year. River Falls got on the scoreboard with 32 seconds left and Lake Forest led 2-1 at the first intermission.

The Falcons took the lead in the second period on a power play goal at 9:06 and a shorthanded score at 14:14. The Foresters tied the game just 91 seconds later on Clouthier’s first score of the season and the teams entered the third period tied at three.

Senior Laura Wilson (Corunna, Ont./Sarnia Sting) scored the game winning goal at the 13:34 mark of the final period. Her second score of the year was assisted by DeHoey and fellow senior Allison Rushing (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Admirals). It was the 79th career point for DeHoey, moving her past Robyn Slater ’03 into first place in team history.

Sophomore goaltender Ryann McCarthy (Lombard, Ill./Team Illinois) stopped 26 of 29 Falcon shots on goal to earn the victory, her second of the year in three tries.

After a scoreless first period on Sunday, the visitors broke through for a goal at 3:19 in the second and a power play score with 4:19 remaining in the frame.

Lake Forest pulled to within a goal on Clouthier’s second score of the weekend and season. Rushing assisted on the power play goal at 7:49 in the third period. River Falls, however, scored at 9:29 and 12:40 to put the game out of reach.

The Foresters will not play next weekend and will continue their league schedule with a series at Finlandia University the following weekend (December 1-2). The teams will face off at 7:00 (EST) Saturday night and 2:00 (EST) Sunday afternoon.
