5-2 Win
LAKE FOREST, IL - On a day when Lake Forest College formally celebrated the addition of women's ice hockey to their varsity sports docket, the Foresters capped off the festivities by defeating visiting UW-Eau Claire, 5-2, on Sunday (November 19th) in front of 180 fans. The win completed a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association sweep of the Blugolds. The day was dubbed the "Forester Hat Trick" in recognition of three "firsts" at Lake Forest - the first season of varsity women's hockey, the first home NCHA series, and the first College President (David Spadafora) to drive the zamboni. Lake Forest (4-1-1, 2-1-1 NCHA) got goals from five different players and outscored Eau Claire 4-1 in the final period. Eau Claire (1-5-0, 0-2-0) out-shot the Foresters (30-24) for the second straight night. UW-EC's Megan Christopherson scored the first period's only goal to give the Blugolds a 1-0 lead. Tory Solley's (Washington, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) fourth goal of the season tied the game at the 4:02 mark in the second period. The game remained tied until Lydia Grokin (Stowe, VT/North American Hockey Academy) scored on the power play just over a minute into the third period. It was Groskin's fifth goal of the year. Michelle Heffel (Tempe, AZ/Lake Forest Academy) gave LF a two-goal cushion at the 4:39 mark on another power play goal, but Eau Claire would pull within a goal just 13 seconds later. Robyn Slater's (Granite City, IL/Grantie City Senior H.S.) fifth goal of the season and Kathy Eckhardt's (Colorado Springs, CO/Ohio State University) third goal of 2000 (an empty netter) expanded the Forester's lead to its final margin of 5-2. Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC/National Sports Academy) recorded 28 saves for her second win in as many days. Lake Forest will be off for nearly two weeks during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Their next action will be versus UW-River Falls on Friday, December 1st and Saturday, December 2nd at Alumni Memorial Ice Rink.
