Laura Wilson leads the team with five goals and seven points.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team began Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play at home over the weekend (November 20-21). The Foresters fell 3-2 in overtime Saturday night to UW-Stevens Point, the nation’s fourth-ranked team and last year’s NCAA Division III runner-up. Lake Forest and UW-Eau Claire then skated to a 2-2 tie Sunday afternoon. The Foresters are now 2-1-3 on the season, Stevens Point is 3-0-0, and Eau Claire is 3-2-1.

Stevens Point scored Saturday night’s first goal at the 6:17 mark of the opening period. Lake Forest tied the score on a power play goal by freshman Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) with just 10 seconds to play in the period. Junior Lil Caligiuri (Wheaton, IL/Culver Academy) earned the assist.

The Pointers regained the advantage on a power play goal of their own at 15:12 in the second.

The visitors clung to their 2-1 lead until, with just nine seconds to play in regulation, Wilson scored again to tie the score. Caligiuri and freshman Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) assisted on the power play goal. The Foresters also had an extra skater in the game after pulling the goalie with 25 seconds left on the clock.

Stevens Point converted another power play opportunity in overtime to score the game-winner. Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) tallied 37 saves in the game, her highest total so far this season.

Bevis stopped 28 of 30 shots on goal on Sunday. She is now 2-1-3 on the year with a 2.06 goals against average and .925 save percentage.

Lake Forest struck first against Eau Claire with DeHoey’s third goal of the year at the 14:09 mark of the opening period. Freshman Jen Clouthier (Aurora, IL/Chicago Mission) was credited with the assist. The Blugolds tied the score at the 16:59 mark.

The home team regained the lead with Wilson’s team-high fifth goal of the year eight minutes into the second stanza. Freshman Amalia Vriend (King City, ON/Markham Stouffville Stars) and junior Erin McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) earned assists and helped Wilson extend her career-opening streak of consecutive games with at least one point to six. Eau Claire again tied the game with a power play goal at the period’s 13:39 mark and neither team was able to score again.

The Foresters will trave to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, next weekend (November 26-27). The teams will face off at 7:00 Friday night and again at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
