Pair of Hat Tricks Highlight Lake Forest's Weekend Sweep of Finlandia

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women's hockey team raised its overall record to 4-3-0 and evened its Northern Collegiate Association mark at 2-2-0 by sweeping visiting Finlandia University over the weekend (November 22-23). Lake Forest defeated the Lions 6-1 Saturday afternoon and 6-4 on Sunday, leaving the visitors winless in eight games this season, including five league contests.

The first goal of Saturday's game was also the first in the career of freshman Meghan Fosth (Lake Stevens, Wash./National Sports Academy). She was assisted by junior Sam Pinsonneault (Manchester, N.H./New Hampton School) at the 12:15 mark of the opening period.

Freshman Melissa Kravich (Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus College) doubled the home team's lead on a power play goal at the 2:19 mark of the second stanza. Junior Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) assisted on Kravich's fourth score of the year and both players earned an assist on a goal by freshman Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School) three-and-a-half minutes later. Freshman Mira Trebilcock (South Porcupine, Ontario/Trinity College School) then scored an unassistedt goal, the first of her career, at 9:28 to give the Foresters a 4-0 lead after two periods.

After Finlandia converted a power play opportunity early in the the third period, Herring returned the favor off a pass from Bean at 5:43. Herring then closed out the scoring and completed her first career hat trick with an unassisted power play goal at 10:10. She leads Lake Forest with seven goals on the season.

Sophomore goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) recorded 17 saves on Saturday and 28 on Sunday.

Trebilcock scored a pair of first period power play goals on Sunday. Kravich and junior Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines H.S.) assisted on the first at 6:09 and Herring and Kravich set up the second at 12:13.

Kravich's fifth goal of the season led off the second period scoring at 6:29. She was assisred by Herring as both players finished the weekend with five points. Sophomore Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) then scored her second goal of the year at 8:48 and her third just 18 seconds later. Sophomore Sam Herron (Clinton Township, Mich./Victory Honda) assisted on the first score and junior Sam LePicier (Williamstown, Mass./Mt. Greylock H.S.) the second. After Finlandia got on the scoreboard at 11:28, Trebilcock scored another power play goal with four second left in the period to complete the team's second hat trick in as many days and the 12th in program history. Bean and Sauer were each credited with an assist.

The Lions closed the gap in the third period, scoring at 1:41, 18:06, and 19:37.
