MOORHEAD, MN - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team won both of its games at Concordia College’s Cobber Thanksgiving Tournament over the weekend (November 25-26). The Foresters defeated Hamline University 8-3 on Friday and blanked the hosts 4-0 on Saturday to raise their record on the year to 8-1-0. The team has already won as many games and scored as many goals as it did all of last season.

Lake Forest scored the first five goals of the game against Hamline, including three in the opening period. Junior Michelle Ricketts (Rochester, MI/Honeybaked) scored her fifth of the season just 71 seconds in to the contest, freshman Dayna Kanis (Georgetown, ON/Etobicoke Dolphins) notched her eighth of the year at 3:30, and sophomore Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) added another score with 34 seconds left on the clock.

DeHoey lit the lamp for the seventh time this season at 4:55 in the second period and sophomore Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) scored her team-high 11th of the year exactly a minute later. After the Pipers got on the scoreboard at 6:26, the Foresters added junior Tina Wyzgowski’s (North Street, MI/Niagara University) first of the season at 10:55 and freshman Carly Mason’s (Williamstown, MA/Northern Berkshire) second at 12:56.

Hamline scored at 11:05 in the third period and again at 18:03 to trim the lead to 7-3. Senior Darby McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) finally closed out the scoring with her fourth goal of the year, just one second before the end of the game.

Junior goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) had 23 saves in Friday’s game and is now 6-1-0 on the season with a .894 save percentage. Freshman Jess Zublin (Pawling, NY/Greenwich Academy) was in goal for Lake Forest on Saturday and stopped all 21 shots she faced to earn her first career shutout.

All four goals against Concordia were recorded in the first period by players who had yet to score this season. Senior Andrea Richmond (Enfield, NH/Northfield Mount Hermon School) started it off at the 6:20 mark and freshman Jenn Hill (Cheektowaga, NY/Nichols School) added another at 8:14. Senior Erin McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) made it 4-0 with goals at 8:59 and 12:44.

The Foresters will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend (December 3-4). The team will play at UW-Eau Claire at 2:00 both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
