Foresters Open 2001-02 Season With Sweep of St. Benedict
Bellizzi's career off to 2-0 start

ST. JOSEPH, MN - The Forester women's hockey team began their 2001-02 season this weekend (November 2-3rd) with two victories at the College of St. Benedict. Friday night's score was 6-2 and the final of Saturday afternoon's win was 2-1.

Head Coach Susie Bellizzi recorded wins in the first two games of her head coaching career. "Both the players and I were anxious to finally play a game, so getting two wins made an already exciting weekend even more eventful."

In Friday's (November 2nd) victory, the Foresters rebounded from giving up an early goal to score two of their own in the first period. Junior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL) scored the first goal on an assist from freshman Michelle Pickles (Crown Point, IN) and sophomore Lydia Groskin (Stowe, VT) scored an unassisted goal to give the Foresters their first lead.

St. Benedict tied the score shortly after the first intermission before Pickles gave Lake Forest the lead for good with her unassisted goal with 13:24 to go in the second period. Sophomore Siobhan Findlay (Chicago, IL) added her first goal of the season less than eight minutes later and freshman Robyn Shea (St. John's, Newfoundland) scored twice in the final period to close out the scoring. Groskin assisted on Shea's first goal.

Sophomore goaltender Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC) stopped 35 of 37 shots on goal in the game.

On Saturday, the scoring was not quite so plentiful. Shea continued her scoring spree with the game's first goal late in the second period with an assist credited to freshman Lindsey Wild (Inver Grove Heights, MN). After the home team tied the score early in the third period, Groskin assisted Slater on her second goal of the season with 3:46 to play to give the Foresters the game and the weekend sweep.

Taylor saved 19 shots on Saturday, giving her 54 saves and just 3 goals allowed in the two games.

Next weekend Lake Forest will host Hamline University in their first home games of the season. Friday's game will begin at 7:30 pm and Saturday's face-off will be at 2:00 pm.
