Lake Forest Falls to Nation’s Second-Ranked Team
Kanis scores twice in home opener

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women’s hockey team fell 13-3 to Gustavus Adolphus College at home Saturday (November 5) afternoon. Lake Forest is now 2-1-0 on the season. The Gusties, ranked second in the nation in US College Hockey Online’s preseason poll, evened their record at 1-1-0.

Gustavus Adolphus scored the opening period’s only goal at the 7:38 mark and added two more scores in the first half of the second stanza. The Foresters cut the lead to 3-1 when freshman Dayna Kanis (Georgetown, ON/Etobicoke Dolphins) lit the lamp at 17:08. She was assisted by sophomore Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks). The visitors extended their lead to 4-1 with the period’s final goal at 18:14.

The Gusties scored twice more early in the third period before sophomore Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) recorded a power play goal at 7:14. Senior Lil Caligiuri (Wheaton, IL/Culver Academy) assisted Wilson’s third score of the year. After seven more Gustie goals, Kanis notched her second of the game and team-high sixth of the season at 17:25 to close out the scoring. DeHoey and senior Darby McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) earned the assists.

The Foresters will play a pair of home games against Augsburg College, another Minnesota Intercollegiate Hockey Association school, next weekend (November 12-13). Saturday night’s game will begin at 7:00 and the teams will face off again at 2:00 Sunday afternoon.
