MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team opened the 2004-05 season by skating to a 4-4 tie at Augsburg College Friday (November 5) evening. The teams played to a 3-3 tie Saturday (November 6) afternoon and are both 0-0-2 on the year.

The Foresters opened the scoring on Friday with freshman Ali Neal’s (Wolfboro Falls, NH/Holderness School) first career goal. She was assisted on period one’s only score by junior Erin McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) and freshman Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) at 10:15.

The home team tied the score at 6:23 in the second on a power play goal and took the lead at 11:15.

Lake Forest sophomore Darby McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) notched her first career goal off a pass from her sister Erin at the 4:09 mark of the third period to briefly knot the score. After Augsburg regained the advantage with another power play goal at 8:49, Forester freshman Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) tied the game again at 14:03 with an unassisted shorthanded score, the first of her career. Darby McGrath’s unassisted power play goal with just 44 seconds remaining in regulation gave the visitors the lead but, with less than one second on the clock, Augsburg converted its third power play of the game to tie it.

Neither team was able to score in the five-minute overtime period. Sophomore Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) recorded 24 saves in the game to earn the tie. She tallied 23 more on Saturday as the teams played to another stalemate.

Augsburg got on the scoreboard first on Saturday at the 7:57 mark of the opening period. Lake Forest junior Andrea Richmond (Enfield, NH/Northfield Mount Hermon School) tied the score with an unassisted goal, her first of the season at 12:58. The visitors took the lead with 1:25 to play in the period on a power play goal by Darby McGrath. Neal and Richmond assisted on McGrath’s third score of the weekend.

The home team scored just 53 seconds into period two to tie the game and then took the lead at 7:15. Forester freshman Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) scored her first career goal with 40 seconds left in the second. Erin McGrath and sophomore Liz Mabs (Crete, IL/Elmira College) were each credited with an assist on what turned out to be the game’s final goal.

Lake Forest will play its first home games of the season next weekend (November 12-13) against St. Mary’s University (MN). The teams will face off at 7:00 Friday night and again Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
