MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The Lake Forest College women's hockey team started the 2002-03 season with a 6-3 victory Friday (November 8) afternoon at Augsburg College. It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Freshman forward Emily Blegen (Elk River, MN) scored the Foresters' first goal of the season at the 10:55 mark of the first period. Just 26 seconds elapsed before Lake Forest increased its lead to 2-0 with a goal of the stick of freshman forward Nicki Paquette (Moncton, NB).

Despite allowing their first score of the year just 14 seconds later, the Foresters finished the first period with a three-goal lead, thanks to senior forward Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL) and freshman forward Lil Caligiuri (Wheaton, IL), who scored power play goals with 6:23 and 3:45 remaining before the first intermission.

Lake Forest was shut out in the second period while the home team scored twice to cut the Forester advantage to just 4-3.

Late in the third period, however, Lake Forest put the game out of reach with a pair of goals separated by just 22 seconds. Freshman forward Erin McGrath (Chippawa, ON) scored at the 14:29 mark and fellow freshman forward Mel Guillermo (North Las Vegas, NV) added another insurance goal at 14:51.

Junior goaltender Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC) tallied 24 saves to earn the victory.

The same two teams will face off at 2:00 on Saturday (November 9) afternoon. Lake Forest will travel across town to Hamline University on Sunday (November 10) for another 2:00 p.m. game.
