November 9, 2002 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Lake Forest Sweeps Augsburg with 3-2 Win
The home team's Kristin Johnson and the Foresters' Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC) combined for 20 saves in a scoreless first period. John would finish the afternoon with 32 saves while Taylor would need just 17 saves to collect her second victory of the year. Freshman forward Nicki Paquette (Moncton, NB) finally put Lake Forest on the scoreboard at the 5:12 mark of the second period. Freshman defenders Andrea Richmond (Enfield, NH) and Catherine Norton (South Boston, MA) each recorded an assist. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the visitors until Augsburg's Corrie Krzyska tied it at the 1:47 mark of the third period. The Foresters jumped regained the lead with a pair of goals by freshman forward Emily Blegen (Elk River, MN). Her first of the game and second of the season came at the 5:02 mark of the final frame and she added an important insurance goal at 8:37. Sophomore forward Lindsey Wild (Inver Grove Heights, MN), who set a school record with 15 assists last year, got her first and second of 2002-03 on the third period scores. Freshman forward Jordi Ralph (Carp, ON) was also credited with an assist on Blegen's first goal. Although Augsburg pulled to within one goal with just over a minute remaining in the game, Taylor and the Forester defense stayed strong and held on for the victory. Lake Forest, despite having already played and won twice this weekend, will be in action again on Sunday (November 10) afternoon (2:00) at Hamline University. Last season the Foresters swept Hamline in Lake Forest behind seven goals from (then) junior Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL).
