MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Forester women's hockey team split a series at Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools over the weekend (November 8-9), winning 5-4 in overtime at St. Mary's University on Saturday and falling 7-1 at the University of St. Thomas the following afternoon. Lake Forest is now 2-1-0 on the season. St. Mary's fell to 1-2-0 and it was St. Thomas' second victory in as many games.

The Foresters got on the scoreboard first at the 2:39 mark of Saturday's opening preiod on junior Courtney Bean's (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) first goal of the season. Freshman Molly Wallner (Chatham, Ill./Chicago Young Americans) assisted on the power play goal for her first career point. After the Cardinals tied the score on a power play goal of their own at 15:54, Lake Forest regained the lead just 54 seconds later on freshman Kim Herring's (Dover, N.H./Groton School) first career goal. She was assisted by sophomore Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames). Herring then assisted on a power play goal by sophomore Melissa Kravich (Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus College) at 18:37, giving the Foresters a 3-1 lead after one period.

St. Mary's owned the second period, out-shooting the Foresters 16-3 and netting goals at 11:43 and 19:54 to tie the score.

An unassisted goal by Switaj, her first of the year, at 3:03 in the third gave the visitors the lead again but the Cardinals drew even just two minutes later.

A St. Mary's penalty with just nine seconds remaingin in regulation proved costly when Herring scored the game winner just 52 seconds into overtime. Kravich was credited with the assist.

Sophomore goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) had 32 saves in the contest to earn the victory.

St. Thomas took the early lead on Sunday with a power play goal at the 5:34 mark of the opening period. The Tommies added three goals, including another power play score, in the second stanza and headed into the final 20 minutes with a 4-0 advantage.

Kravich scored the Foresters' only goal of the game with 13:40 remaining in the contest. The unassisted power play score was her team-high third of the season. The Tommies added three more goals late in the period to put the game out of reach.

Lake Forest will begin Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend (November 15-16) at UW-River Falls. The Foresters and Falcons will face off at 2:05 both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
