up in Mississippi, Reece moved to Lake Forest and attended Lake Forest
High School. He lettered in basketball, football and track.
He entered Lake Forest in 1948 and eventually earned two letters in football and one in basketball. He left in 1951 and entered the U.S. Army. After two years he returned to the College and he was selected All-Conference in both football and basketball. Vice president of the Lettermen's Club, he was also a member of the Athletic Board of Control, Economics Club and Tau Kappa Epsilon. Graduating with a degree in economics, he studied advertising at Northwestern and then attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Reece took a position with Creative Merchandising and Publishing, Inc. in Minneapolis, where he served as graphic coordinator.
