Season Ends After First Round of NCAA Tournament
Lake Forest falls 1-0 at Webster University

Krystine Operzedek had 7 saves Wednesday and 101 this year.
ST. LOUIS, MO - The 2003 season finally ended for the Lake Forest College women's soccer team on Wednesday (November 12). The Foresters, who were making their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament, fell 1-0 at Webster University in their first round match. Lake Forest finished the year with a 14-4-1 record while Webster raised its mark to 15-3-2.

It was a windy day and Lake Forest, with the wind at its back, controlled most of the first half.  The visitors were unable to capitalize, however, and the teams switched directions for the final 45 minutes.

Webster finally broke the scoreless tie with 14:08 remaining in the contest when Abbey Schatz scored off assists from Shain Niederschutle and Alicia Martineau.

Forester freshman goalkeeper Kristyne Operzedek (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) recorded seven saves in the loss and 101 over the course of the season. She is just the second player in school history to reach the century-mark. Assistant Coach Rachael LaFin '03 tallied 156 in 1999 and 103 in 2000.

Lake Forest surrendered an average of just 0.68 goals per game, the lowest mark in school history. The team's 11 shutouts match the record set by the 1995 Foresters and its 14 victories are just one shy of the 1996 team's mark.

Sophomore forward Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) led the team with 17 goals and set school records with 17 assists and 51 points. Senior Aviva Landin (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) was second on the squad in both goals (14) and points (32), and junior Carinn Rasak (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe Preparatory) was second in assists with six. The team will lose five of its 21 members to graduation in May.
