LAFIN, SPONSEL, GANNON NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE
Three Lake Forest women's soccer players were selected to the 1999 All-Midwest Conference teams. Junior co-captain Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa High School) and freshman Rachel LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West H.S.) were named to the First Team, while junior Katy Gannon (Groton, NH/Holderness H.S.) was a second unit pick.
Sponsel, also a 1998 All-MWC First Team selection, made the First Team as a midfielder. She led this year's Forester team in goals with 9, assists with 2, and points with 20. All of her assists and all but 2 of her goals came versus MWC opponents. She was the seventh-leading scorer in the league.
LaFin appeared in goal for all 16 Lake Forest games. She compiled a 2.08 goals against average and recorded 4 shutouts, including 3 in MWC play. LaFin established a new school record with 156 saves on the season and her 83.0 save percentage was the fourth-highest total in school history.
Gannon started all 16 games for the Foresters as a defenseman and anchored a Lake Forest defense that gave up just over two goals per game.
Lake Forest finished the 1999 season with a 5-10-1 overall record, including a 5-4-0 mark and a tie for fifth place in the MWC.
