Foresters Finish 2002 Season with 3-1 Victory over Ripon
Team is over .500 in league play for tenth straight year

Goalkeeper Rachael LaFin completes her career with 34 victories and 420 saves.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women's soccer team wrapped up its 2002 season Saturday (November 2) with a 3-1 victory at home over Ripon College. Lake Forest finishes 7-9-0 overall and, at 5-4-0 in Midwest Conference matches, the team records its league schedule over the .500 mark for the tenth straight year.

Junior Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) put the Foresters on the scoreboard first with her 34th minute goal, the only one of the first half. McHugh's third score of the season came off a pass from freshman Breanne Kuenzi (Las Vegas, NV/Bonanza), who finishes tied for second on the team with five assists.

Lake Forest needed just 41 seconds after intermission to increase its lead to 2-0. Senior Frances Hensley (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) scored the unassisted goal, her second of the year.

After Ripon's Suzanne Macak cut the lead to 2-1 in the 63rd minute, Forester freshman Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X) kicked in her team-leading 13th goal of 2002 with just six seconds remaining, tying her with three others for the fifth-highest single-season total in school history.

Senior goalkeeper Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) finishes her career with a 34-26-3 record and 420 saves. Her 99 saves in 2002 are the third-most in school history, trailing only her 1999 and 2000 totals.

The 2002 Lake Forest roster has just three seniors on it. In addition to LaFin and Hensley, the Foresters will lose defender Dana Tate (Appleton, WI/Appleton East) to graduation. The trio has helped Lake Forest to a 36-26-3 (.577) overall record and 25-10-1 (.708) MWC mark over the past four seasons.
