Lake Forest Clinches #3 Seed in Conference Tournament with Pair of One-Goal Wins
Foresters defeat Illinois College and Monmouth College at home

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Forester women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a pair of Midwest Conference victories at home over the weekend (November 1-2). Lake Forest earned a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament with a 1-0 defeat of Illinois College on Saturday and clinched the tourney's #3 seed with a 3-2 triumph over Monmouth College on Sunday. The Foresters are now 9-8-1 overall after winning four consecutive one-goal decisions against fellow MWC members. They finished their league schedule in third place with a mark of 7-2-0.

Lake Forest freshman Isabel Brown (Tucson, Ariz./Tuscon Magnet) entered Saturday's contest in the 18th minute and scored the game's only goal and the first of her career at 23:42.

The Foresters out-shot the Lady Blues 23-6 but were unable to score again. Senior goalkeeper Susan Hedrick (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) recorded four saves in her third shutout of the season.

Monmouth got on the scoreboard first at the 5:06 mark of Sunday's contest. Lake Forest tied the game at 25:26 when sophomore Emily Weber (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills Upper School) scored off a pass from senior Katie Rice (Centennial, Colo./ Eaglecrest). The home tem then took the lead at 33:55 on freshman Jillian Avery's (Eden Prairie, Minn./Blake School) second goal of the season. Sophomore Bianca Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) recorded her team-high fifth assist on the play.

The score remained 2-1 until the 68th minute when Weber netted her second goal of the game and third this season. She was assisted by freshman Caroline Stearns (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley). The Fighting Scots trimemd the lead back to one just 77 seconds later but were unable to tie the score.

Hedrick finished with seven saves in her fourth straight victory.

Sunday was also the Foresters' Senior Day and Hedrick, Rice, Alison Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame), Mallory Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay), Caty von Brecht (Cumberland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy), Molly Beste (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), and Valentina Galli (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) were recognized before their final home game. Rice's assist gave the group a combined 79 points on 30 goals and 19 helpers over the last four seasons. Lake Forest has posted a 36-32-4 overall record and 25-9-2 MWC mark during that time.

League champion St. Norbert College will host the MWC Tournament next weekend (November 7-8). Lake Forest will take on Carroll University in the semifinals Friday morning at 11:00. St. Norbert will host Grinnell College in the 2:00 p.m. semifinal and the winners will play at noon on Saturday for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
