Grinnell Defeats Foresters in MWC Tournament Semifinals

Grinnell, Iowa – The Lake Forest College women’s soccer team had its 2006 season come to an end Friday (November 3) in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament at league champion Grinnell College. The Pioneers defeated the Foresters 5-1, dropping the visitors’ overall record on the year to 8-9-0. The victory gave the Pioneers a mark of 14-2-1.

The home team scored first in the game’s sixth minute and took a 2-0 lead into halftime after adding a goal at 25:32.

Grinnell extended its lead to three goals in the 50th minute. Lake Forest sophomore Caty von Brecht (Cumberland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) closed the gap to two goals at 65:55 with her second score of the season and in as many contests. She was assisted by classmate Jayme Honold (Kapolei, Hawaii/Kapolei). The Pioneers, however, put the game out of reach with goals at 75:23 and 88:40.

It was the team’s fourth straight trip to the four-team MWC Tournament and its 11th in the last 13 years.
