Foresters Reach the Final of the Midwest Conference Tournament
Team defeats St. Norbert in OT in semifinal but falls 3-0 to host Carroll in final

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Lake Forest College women’s soccer team was the number three seed in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament at Carroll College over the weekend (November 3-4). The Foresters knocked off number two seed St. Norbert College 2-1 in overtime in Saturday’s early semifinal before falling to Carroll, the top seed, 3-0 on Sunday. Lake Forest finished the season with an 11-8-1 record. St. Norbert fell to 12-5-1 and the Lady Pioneers are now 17-2-1.

St. Norbert took the lead in the 20th minute on Saturday but was held scoreless the rest of the way. Forester junior Alison Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) recorded six saves in the contest.

Lake Forest ties the score at the 66:12 mark on junior Katie Rice’s (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) fourth goal of the season. She was assisted by sophomore Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax,Va./James W. Robinson) and junior Jaymie Honold (Kapolei, Hawaii/Kapolei). The game winner was scored by freshman Molly Shaw (Holladay, Utah/Olympus) two-and-a-half minutes into the extra period. Senior Laura Wilson (Coronna, Ont./Sarnia Collegiate Technical School) assisted on Shaw’s third score of the year.

Lynch recorded 11 saves against Carroll on Sunday and finished the season with 108 saves, the second-highest total in team history. She also ended up with a goals against average of just 1.36.

Carroll scored in the 33rd minute and then pulled away in the second half with goals at 63:20 and 64:50.

It was the final collegiate game for Wilson and fellow seniors Marly Ashworth (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional), Helen Eisenberg (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School), Krista Kusinski (New London, N.H./Kimball Union Academy), and Brittany MacLeod (Gorham, Maine/Gorham). They helped lead the program to a 41-27-3 overall record and 27-7-2 mark in the MWC over the last four seasons.
