November 6, 2009 Contact: Mike Wajerski , SID Late Goal by St. Norbert in MWC Tourney Semifinals Ends Foresters' Season
The Foresters took the early lead in the game at 16:56 on freshman Becky Esrock's (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield School) school record 20th goal of the season. She surpassed the mark of 19 set by Sarah Bartz in 1996 and matched by Jessica Wiehrdt the following year. St. Norbert, however, tied the game just seven minutes later. Lake Forest regained the advantage at 26:01 when Esrock assisted on fellow freshman Lisa Sorensen's (Muskegon, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) 14th goal of 2009. The score remained 2-1 until the Green Knights tied it again with 2:05 remaining in the first half. Neither team was able to score again until, with just 6:49 remaining in the second half, St. Norbert kicked in what turned out to be the game-winner. In addition to setting a single-season program record for goals, Esrock's 47 points on the year rank second in team history. Sorensen matched the sixth-highest goals total and both players easily surpassed the highest scoring output by a Forester freshman. Junior Bianca Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) led the squad in assists with 15, the second-highest total in program history and just two off the school record. Friday's contest was the final career game for Forester seniors Emily Sadler (Everett, Wash./Cascade Senior), Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson), and Monica Thomas (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos). They combined for 73 career points on 28 goals and 17 assists and helped lead the team to a 27-9-0 conference record over the last four years.
