FORESTERS, LAFIN PITCH TWO SHUTOUTS OVER THE WEEKEND
A Frances Hensley (Belleville, IL/Belleville West H.S.) goal and a few Rachel LaFin (Glen Elynn, IL/Glenbard West H.S.) saves proved to be a winning formula for the Foresters over the weekend. During a 6-0 win at Illinois College on Saturday and a 1-0 victory at Monmouth on Sunday, Hensley scored the game's first goal and LaFin recorded the shutout in goal as the Foresters pushed their MWC mark to 5-3-0 and evened their overall record at 5-5-1.
After Hensley opened the scoring at Illinois during the game's 24th minute, Rosanna Console (Addison, IL/Addison Trail H.S.), Dana Tate (Appleton, WI/Appleton East H.S.), and Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa H.S.) tacked on second half goals, with Console and Sponel scoring twice each. LaFin had three saves for the shutout victory. The Foresters out-shot IC 28 to 5 and had 11 corner kicks compared to IC's 0.
Sunday's match-up with Monmouth started much the same for Lake Forest, with Hensley scoring the game's first, and ultimately only, goal at the 51:12 mark. LaFin had five saves for her second consecutive shutout. It was her fourth shutout of the season and third in the last three games.
Lake Forest will take on four non-conference foes before facing MWC opponent Lawrence in the last regular season game of the season. The Foresters are still vying for a spot in the four-team MWC Championship Tournament on October 30-31.
