Lake Forest's Offense Erupts Late in Victory Over Beloit
Stevenson records first career "hat trick"

Melissa Stevenson scored three times Sunday afternoon.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team needed a victory over Beloit College Sunday (October 13) to snap a seven-match losing streak and restore some of the defending Midwest Conference Champions' confidence. With a 6-1 triumph over the Buccaneers, the Foresters raised their overall record to 4-7-0 and their MWC mark to 2-3-0.

After a scoreless first half during which Lake Forest out-shot the visitors, 9-1, the Foresters finally broke through with freshman Melissa Stevenson's (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) third goal of the season, an unassisted score at the 47:40 mark.

Beloit came right back, however, and tied the game with an unassisted goal by Christy Buzzard at 51:51.

Lake Forest regained the lead just less than ten minutes later on sophomore Erika Koesling's (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch) second score of 2002 off a pass from fellow sophomore Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central).

The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Foresters until the final ten minutes of the game, when the home team scored four times. Freshman Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X) scored the first two to raise her team-leading goal total for the season to nine. Juniors Stephanie Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) and Aviva Landin (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) assisted on the Lopez scores. Stevenson then scored twice in the last two-and-a-half minutes, giving her three goals on the day and five for the season. Sophomores Sarah Shepherd (Newburgh, ON/Williston-Northampton) and Carinn Rasak (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe Preparatory) each recorded an assist.

Lake Forest will try to maintain the momentum from the last few minutes Sunday in their next game, a home match against Carroll College on Wednesday (October 16) at 4:00 p.m. Carroll leads the conference with a 4-0-0 record and is 9-2-0 overall. The Foresters will continue MWC play on Saturday (October 19) with another home match against Monmouth College.
