Foresters Record 2nd Straight MWC Shutout
LaFin and Potts combine to blank Monmouth 5-0

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team "did their folks proud" on Parents' Day (Saturday, October 14th) as they defeated Monmouth College 5-0 in front of more than 150 fans at Nicholas Wasylik Field. The victory raised the home team's record to 7-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Midwest Conference.

The statistical contributions came from everywhere for the Foresters as four different players scored goals, five recorded assists and 16 took at least one shot. Junior Sandi Coutts (Round Lake, IL/College of Lake County) scored two of the goals, her 7th and 8th on the year. Freshman Aviva Landin (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) scored her 2nd of the season and seniors Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa) and Beth Kohr (Franklin, OH/Franklin) each scored their 4th. Assists came from senior Erin Sovick (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre), sophomore Lauren Susemihl (Colorado Springs, CO/St. Mary's) and freshmen Stephanie Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central), Samantha England (Prince George, B.C./Kelly Road Secondary) and Jocelyn Durant (Old Greenwich, CT/Berkshire).

Freshman forward Aviva
Landin started the scoring
for LF less than seven
minutes into the game.
For the second straight MWC game, the Foresters sophomore goaltenders were perfect. The team defense didn't make it too difficult as they allowed just four Monmouth shots, one saved by starter Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) in the first half and three saved by Amanda Potts (Verona, NJ/Verona) in the second.

Neither team has long to grieve or celebrate over this one as they are both in action again tomorrow. Monmouth travels to Beloit and Lake Forest hosts Illinois College at 11:00 AM with an opportunity to clinch a spot in the conference tournament.
