Foresters in MWC Tourney After 4-0 Win Over IC
LaFin and Potts combine for second shutout this weekend

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team took care of business this weekend as they completed a sweep of Monmouth College 5-0 on Saturday (October 14th) and Illinois College 4-0 on Sunday (October 15th). The victories ensure the Foresters that they will be one of the four teams in the Midwest Conference Tournament on October 27th and 28th.

Strong defense was again an important part of the win over Illinois College. The Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeping tandem of Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West), who played the first half, and Amanda Potts (Verona, NJ/Verona), who played the second, turned away the only three shots on goal they faced the entire game. It was the second straight day the two combined to hold their opponents scoreless.

As for the Foresters goals, all four occurred in the first half of play. Junior Stacy Gunstream (Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain) started the scoring early as she connected on a header

less than 3 minutes into the game. Sophomore Frances Hensely (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) and senior Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa) each recorded an assist on the goal. The second goal was scored unassisted at 20:11 by sophomore Dana Tate (Appleton, WI/Appleton East). Gunstream added her second goal of the game on a feed from senior Erin Sovick (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) at 25:35 and Sponsel assisted junior Sandi Coutts (Round Lake, IL/College of Lake County) on her team-leading 9th goal of the season to close out the scoring with just over ten minutes to go in the half.
