Lake Forest Defeats Benedictine University 4-2
Melissa Stevenson scores twice for second straight game

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team hosted and defeated Benedictine University 4-2 on Wednesday (October 15). The victory raised the Foresters' overall record to 9-2-1 while Benedictine fell to 10-4-2.

The visitors got on the scoreboard first at the 1:50 mark on a goal by Nicki Hopf. Lake Forest tied the score in the 28th minute on sophomore forward Melissa Stevenson's (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) 12th goal of the season. Juniors Erika Koesling (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch) and Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) each earned an assist. Neither team was able to score again in the first half.

Stevenson scored her 13th goal of the year less than a minute-and-a-half into the second period. Senior midfielder Samantha England (Prince George, BC/Kelly Road Secondary) was credited with the assist. Junior sweeper Mei-Yun Gibson (Aurora, CO/Eaglecrest) notched her 3rd goal of the season at the 54:27 mark and freshman midfielder Becca Bride (Wilmot, NH/Kearsarge Regional) scored her first career goal just 75 seconds later, with Koesling recording her second assist of the contest. The Eagles' Michelle Prather scored the game's final goal with just 19 seconds remaining.

With 13 goals, 11 assists, and 37 points so far in 2003, Stevenson is nearing the single season school records of 14 assists and 44 points. She raised her total to 58 and moved into the top 10 in school history in career points with the four she recorded on Wednesday. After less than two full seasons, Stevenson is also tied for ninth with 23 goals and tied for eighth with 14 assists in her career.

The Foresters will take their 4-1-1 Midwest Conference record on the road for a pair of league games this weekend (October 18-19). The team will play at 1:00 Saturday afternoon at Illinois College (3-7-1, 1-4-0 MWC) and at 11:00 a.m. at Monmouth College (6-4-1, 3-1-1) on Sunday.
