LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team successfully defended its home field against Monmouth College on Saturday (October 19) by a score of 6-0. The Foresters raised their overall record to 5-8-0 with the victory and their Midwest Conference mark to 3-4-0. Monmouth fell to 5-6-0 overall and 2-3-0 in MWC matches.

Junior Stephanie Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) scored the game's first goal in the 33rd minute. Assisting on Fink's second goal of the season was sophomore Carinn Rasak (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe Preparatory).

Freshmen Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X) and Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge), the team's leading scorers, accounted for the next four Forester goals. Lopez scored her tenth of 2002 with just 25 seconds left before halftime with sophomore Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) recording the assist. Lopez got the assist on the first of back-to-back goals by Stevenson, her sixth and seventh of the season. Rasak earned her team-leading seventh assist of the year on Stevenson's second score. The fifth Forester goal was Lopez's 11th of the season and was unassisted.

McHugh finished off the scoring in the 82nd minute with her second score of 2002. McHugh and Lopez became the sixth and seventh team members to record at least one goal and one assist in the same game this year.

Senior goalkeeper Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) tallied seven saves in recording the shutout, her second of the year and 14th of her career. LaFin's 90 saves so far this season are the fifth-highest total in school history. She already has the top two totals of 156 (in 1999) and 103 (2000). Third place is 97 and fourth is 92. Lake Forest has three more games on its schedule.

The Foresters will be back out on their home field Sunday (October 20) morning at 11:00 against Illinois College. Lake Forest will look to even its MWC record against the Lady Blues, who are 2-8-0 overall this season and 1-4-0 in the conference.
