Two Late Goals Propel Foresters to Win Over Carthage
Team ends up 4-3 in non-conference games

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team again rebounded from a loss by giving someone else one. The latest victim was Carthage College, who the Foresters defeated on Saturday (October 21st) by the score of 3-1. The Foresters are now 4-0 on the season in games following a loss. The game marked the completion of the squad's regular season non-conference schedule. The 4-3 record against schools not affiliated with the Midwest Conference is far better than the 0-6-1 finish in 1999 against the same seven teams.

The Foresters' first goal came early as junior Sandi Coutts (Round Lake, IL/College of Lake County) scored her tenth goal of the season at the 11:05 mark. The goals remained empty the next 47 minutes until Carthage tied the score at 58:42. Senior Erin Sovick (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) put the Foresters ahead for good at 78:44 with her sixth goal of 2000 and freshman Aviva Landin (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) provided an insurance goal, her third of the year, at 84:25. Freshman Stephanie Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) recorded her seventh assist of the season on the team's first goal and senior Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa) notched her sixth on Sovick's score.

Junior forward Sandi
Coutts leads the Foresters
with 10 goals & 20 points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) had it easy in the first half as her team's defense allowed Carthage only two shots, neither of which were on goal. The second half was slightly more demanding for LaFin, as she stopped five of the six shots the put on target. Her record, as well as the team's, now stands at 10-4-1 for the season.

Lake Forest will close out the regular season Tuesday (October 24th) with a home game against fellow MWC school Carroll College. It will be the final regular season game before the squad travels to St. Norbert College to play in the MWC Tournament on October 27th and 28th.
