Head Coach T.R. Bell and the Foresters have finished the season atop the Midwest Conference standings.
RIPON, WI - For the first time since 1989 and the second time in the program's 16-year history, the Lake Forest College women's soccer team is the conference champion. The Foresters defeated Ripon College 4-0 on Sunday (October 21st) to clinch the title.

Going into the weekend, Lake Forest was 6-1 in Midwest Conference games but still trailed Lawrence University, who was a perfect 8-0 in league play. The Foresters knocked off Lawrence 2-1 at home on Saturday and their win at Ripon on Sunday brought the championship trophy back to Lake Forest.

In Sunday's game, sophomore forward Aviva Landin (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) started off the scoring just one minute into the game. The goal gave her 11 for the season, tying her with seniorSandi Coutts (Round Lake, IL) for the team lead. The score also extended Landin's amazing streak of consecutive games with at least one goal to seven.

Coutts did not allow Landin to stay tied with her for very long, as she kicked in her 12th and 13th of the season early in the second half. Coutts also recorded her team-leading 9th assist on the Foresters' final goal, which was scored by freshman midfielder Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) in the game's 78th minute.

Although she did not even face a shot attempt in the game, junior goalkeeper Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) was credited with her fifth shutout of the 2001 season and her third in MWC play. She shared another shutout with fellow junior goalkeeper Amanda Potts (Verona, NJ/Verona) and the two have combined to allow just six goals in nine MWC games while the offense has scored 36 times.

Along with the Midwest Conference Championship comes the right to host the four-team MWC Tournament next weekend (October 26-27th). Grinnell College and Lawrence University will play at 11:00 am on Friday and the Foresters will play St. Norbert College at 2:00. Saturday's tournament championship game will be at 2:00 pm. The winner of that game will have earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

Lake Forest will play a non-conference match on Tuesday (October 23rd) against Aurora University at 4:00. The game was originally scheduled for October 16th but was re-scheduled due to field conditions.
