October 21, 2003 Contact: Mike Wajerski , SID Gibson and Stevenson Once Again Named MWC Performers
of the Week
The Foresters won three times last week to raise their record to 11-2-1. Two of the victories came on the road against MWC opponents and, at 6-1-1 in the league, the team has secured a spot in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament. In Wednesday's (October 15) 4-2 win at home over Benedictine University, Lake Forest allowed an early goal but Stevenson tied the score later in the first period and gave the Foresters a 2-1 lead with another goal early in the second. Gibson scored the team's third goal in the game's 55th minute. Lake Forest shut out Illinois College 4-0 on Saturday (October 18). Stevenson assisted on the first two goals of the game and Gibson scored the final tally, her fourth of the season. The junior sweeper also anchored a defense that allowed just two shots in the entire game. The Foresters knocked off Monmouth College on Sunday (October 19) by the same 4-0 margin. Gibson and the rest of the Forester defense held an opponent without a score for the eighth time this season. Stevenson had a goal and an assist in each half. Her second helper of the game was also her 15th of the season and set a new school record. The sophomore forward's second goal gave her 45 points on the year, more than any other single-season total in the program's history. She trails the record for goals (19) by just four with a minimum of three games remaining on the schedule. Midwest Conference Performers of the Week are selected by the league's
sports information directors.
