MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s soccer team won a pair of Midwest Conference road games over the weekend (October 20-21). The Foresters prevailed 5-1 at Illinois College on Saturday and 1-0 at Monmouth College on Sunday to clinch a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament. The team is now 10-6-1 overall and 7-1-0 in league play. Illinois College fell to 3-10-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the conference and Monmouth’s record dropped to 7-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the MWC.

Lake Forest scored just five minutes into Saturday’s game on freshman Bianca Greene’s (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) fourth goal of the season. She was assisted by junior Katie Rice (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest). Sophomore Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax,Va./James W. Robinson) assisted classmate Emily Sadler (Everett, Wash./Cascade Senior) in the ninth minute and freshman Christina Karabetsos (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) made the score 3-0 in the 32nd minute. Karabatsos’ first career goal was assisted by Rice and junior Caty von Brecht (Cumberland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy). The home team got on the scoreboard in the 42nd minute and the visitors led 3-1 at halftime.

Sadler scored for the second time in the game and fifth time this season in the 50th minute off another assist from Maneval and junior Grace Dunford (Los Altos, Calif./Homestead) added her first career goal off an assist from senior Helen Eisenberg (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School) in the 81st minute to close out the scoring.

Junior Alison Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) recorded a pair of saves in the victory. She also added four saves on Sunday, including two in the last five minutes, in her seventh complete game shutout of the season. It was also her fourth 1-0 victory in the last six contests. She has earned the decision in each of the team’s games this year and owns a 1.18 goals against average.

After a scoreless first half, senior Marly Ashworth (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) netted the game’s only goal at the 62:47 mark. Her second score of the year was assisted by Rice, who finished the weekend with three assists.

Lake Forest will travel to Carroll College for a 5:00 game on Wednesday (October 24). A Forester victory would clinch the program’s fourth MWC championship and give Lake Forest the right to host the conference tournament on November 3-4.
