Foresters Keep Title Hopes Alive With 2-0 Triumph at Carroll
Team finishes MWC schedule with 7-1-1 record

Krystine Operzedek recorded a career-high 15 saves.
WAUKESHA, WI - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team recorded its most important victory of the season Wednesday (October 22), a 2-0 triumph at Carroll College. The Foresters are now 12-2-1 overall this season and have completed the Midwest Conference portion of their schedule with a 7-1-1 league record. Carroll fell to 11-2-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the conference.

Sophomore forward Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) scored the first goal of the game at the 21:22 mark off a cross from junior midfielder Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central). It was Stevenson's team-high 16th goal of the season and raised her single-season school record points total to 47. Fink now has four assists, tied for third on the squad.

Senior forward Aviva Landin (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) recorded her 13th goal of 2003 just 15 minutes later to put the visitors ahead by two. Landin's score came off a cross from junior forward Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary), who joined Fink with her fourth assist.

The Foresters were out-shot in each half but benefited from stellar play by freshman goalkeeper Krystine Operzedek (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield), who tallied a career-high 15 saves, including nine in the second period. It was the team's ninth shutout of the year and the sixth complete game blanking for Operzedek.

While Lake Forest has completed its league schedule, Carroll and Grinnell College (8-5-1, 6-0-1 MWC) each have two MWC contests remaining. They will play each other Saturday (October 25) at Grinnell and the Foresters need a Carroll victory to remain in contention for the conference title. Both Lake Forest and Grinnell have secured spots in the four-team conference tournament, which will be held on November 1-2 at the home of the regular season league champion.

Lake Forest will conclude its regular season schedule with a non-conference game at home against the University of Chicago at 3:30 p.m. on Friday (October 24). At 11-0-1, Chicago is currently the third-ranked team in the nation.
