Bell Wins 100th as Lake Forest Blanks Pair of Conference Foes
Foresters now in good position to qualify for MWC Tournament

Lake Forest, Ill. – The Forester women’s soccer team stayed in the race for a spot in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament with a pair of league victories over the weekend (October 21-22). Lake Forest shut out Monmouth College 1-0 on Saturday before blanking Illinois College 3-0 on Sunday to raise its overall record on the year to 8-6-0 and its MWC mark to 6-2-0. The losses dropped Monmouth to 8-4-1 overall and 3-3-0 in the league and Illinois College to 5-9-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the conference.

After a scoreless first half on Saturday, Forester freshman Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax,Va./James W. Robinson) kicked in the game’s only goal at 55:00. Her first career game winner was assisted by senior Becca Bride (Wilmot, N.H./Kearsarge Regional).

Sophomore Alison Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) recorded two saves in the game and notched her second straight shutout.

The victory was also the 100th of head coach T.R. Bell’s career. He is the first coach in team history to reach the milestone and finished the weekend with a career mark of 101-59-6.

Lake Forest took the early lead on Sunday when sophomore Katie Rice (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) scored off an assist from junior Marly Ashworth (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) in the 11th minute.

Rice added her second goal of the game and team-high fifth of the season at 57:09 on a penalty kick. Maneval closed out the scoring with her fourth goal of 2006 at 72:28. She was assisted by sophomore Jayme Honold (Kapolei, Hawaii/Kapolei).

Senior Krystine Operzedek (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) recorded three saves to earn the victory and freshman Julie Maskulka (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) added two stops in the final 17:32. It was the team’s third straight shutout.

Lake Forest will host Carroll College Tuesday (October 24) afternoon at 4:00 in the Foresters’ final conference game of the season. Lake Forest would clinch a spot in the MWC Tournament with a win or tie and will likely advance even with a loss, although that would not be determined until the weekend. The Foresters will conclude their regular season at Wheaton College Friday (October 27) at 4:30 p.m.
