Lake Forest Finishes Regular Season with 1-0 Triumph at Whitewater
Foresters record eighth shutout of the year

Melissa Stevenson leads the 2004 Foresters with 14 goals.
WHITEWATER, WI - The Forester women’s soccer team finished the regular season with a 14-2-0 record after recording a 1-0 victory at UW-Whitewater on Saturday (October 23). The Warhawks’ record on the year fell to 8-8-1.

Lake Forest out-shot the home team 6-4 in the first half and 8-1 in the second. Neither team was able to score until Forester junior Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) kicked in her team-high 14th goal of the season with less than 15 minutes remaining in the contest. Senior Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central), who leads the team in assists, earned her 12th helper of the year.

Stevenson’s goal was the 58th of the season for Lake Forest and tied the 1995, 1996, and 1997 teams for the most in the program’s history.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristyne Operzedek (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) recorded a pair of saves in her second and the Foresters’ eighth shutout of 2004. The team has surrendered just 11 goals this year.

Lake Forest, the 2004 Midwest Conference champions with a perfect 9-0-0 league record, will host the four-team MWC Tournament next weekend (October 30-31). The Foresters’ semifinal game will be played at 2:00 Saturday afternoon and the final will occur at the same time on Sunday.
