LAKE FOREST, IL - After losing to them five times in a row, the Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated St. Norbert College on October 12th en route to the program's first Midwest Conference Championship in 12 years. The Green Knights got their revenge on Friday, though, as they defeated the Foresters 3-2 in overtime in the semifinal of the MWC Tournament, hosted by Lake Forest.

Despite being out-shot by the Foresters 9-5 in the first half, St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead with them into intermission and looked forward to having the wind at its back in the second period.

Lake Forest continued to apply the pressure to the Green Knight defense and cut into the lead with a goal from freshman forward Carinn Rasak (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe Prepoaratory in the 60th minute. Senior forward Sandi Coutts (Round Lake, IL) recorded her team-leading tenth assist of the year on the sixth goal of Rasak's 2001 season.

In the 79th minute, Rasak sent a crossing pass in front of the St. Norbert goal that sophomore forward Stephanie Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) reached out and kicked past the goalie to even the score. The goal was the ninth of the season for Fink and the assist was the fifth for Rasak.

Regulation ended with the score still tied 2-2. Slightly less than nine minutes into overtime, a foul was called on the Foresters in their own box and St. Norbert was awarded a penalty kick. The visitors converted and claimed a 3-2 victory to end Lake Forest's season.

St. Norbert will play in tomorrow's tournament final at 2:00 pm against Lawrence University, who defeated Grinnell College in the early semifinal by the score of 2-1. The winner of the tourney final will receive the Midwest Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

Lake Forest finished the season having allowed just 13 goals, tying the school record originally set by the 1995 team. The Foresters graduate four senior from this year's team, but still return four of their top five in total points.
