Foresters Fall to St. Norbert in MWC Tournament Semifinals
Team finishes the year with a 14-3-0 record

Melissa Stevenson led the Foresters in goals and points.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Midwest Conference Champion Lake Forest College women’s soccer team fell 4-0 to St. Norbert College Saturday (October 30) afternoon in the semifinals of the 2004 MWC Tournament. The Foresters finished the season with a 14-3-0 overall record and their 9-0-0 mark in conference play earned the league championship and the right to host the four-team MWC Tourney.

Despite the shutout in the season finale, Lake Forest tied a team record with 58 goals on the season, matching the scoring output of the 1995, 1996, and 1997 squads. However, those teams each needed one more game to reach that total so the 3.41 goals scored per game are a new school record. The 14 victories are tied with last year’s total for the second-most in the program’s 19 years, one shy of the 1996 Foresters, who posted the only other perfect league record.

Junior Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) led the team with 14 goals and 36 points and ranked third with eight assists. With 31 points on 11 goals and nine assists, junior Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X) was second on the squad in all three categories. Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central), one of the team’s five seniors, led the team with a dozen assists and was third with 24 points.
