Senior Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) scored three times in the game to record her first career hat trick. She scored the game’s first goal just five minutes into the contest off an assist from senior Erika Koesling (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch). Junior Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) scored the home team’s second goal at 19:35 off an assist from freshman Marly Ashworth (Charlestown, NH/Fall Mountain Regional). The Foresters’ third score came off the foot of freshman Elizabeth Huff (Dodgeville, WI/Dodgeville), whose unassisted goal was her third of the year. Lake Forest scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half. McHugh was assisted by Stevenson and junior Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X) at 53:49 and Stevenson scored for the eighth time this year off a McHugh assist just 40 seconds later. McHugh completed the hat trick and reached a career-high seven points for the game with her eighth goal of the season at 82:03. Just 27 seconds later, sophomore Becca Bride (Wilmot, NH/Kearsarge Regional) was credited with the assist on freshman Katy Barrnett’s (Peterborough, NH/Lawrence Academy) second goal of 2004. Freshman goalkeeper Sofia Pappas (Park Ridge, IL/Loyola Academy) recorded two saves for her second shutout in as many starts. The Foresters’ goalies have combined to shut out six opponents and have surrendered just seven goals in a dozen games. Lake Forest will put its 6-0-0 Midwest Conference record on the line Saturday (October 9) morning at against Carroll College (9-0-1, 4-0-1 MWC). The Foresters’ Homecoming game will begin at 10:30 a.m.
