Foresters' Third Straight Overtime Game Ends in Tie at Grinnell
Durant's 1st career goal ties it with 1:25 to go in regulation

GRINNELL, IA - Not even 120 minutes could separate the women's soccer teams from Lake Forest College and Grinnell College on Saturday (October 7th) as the double-overtime game ended in a 2-2 tie. The Midwest Conference battle leaves both teams with one loss and one tie. Second place Grinnell holds the edge in wins with five to the third place Foresters' three.

After a scoreless first half, host Grinnell was able to get on the board first just 8:33 into the second. It took just 11 seconds for the visitors to answer as junior Stacy Gunstream (Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain) fed fellow junior Jenny Berthiaume (West St. Paul, MN/Simley) for her fourth goal of the season. Grinnell went back on top approximately 13 minutes later and the score remained 2-1 in favor of the Pioneers until, with just 1:25 remaining in regulation, freshman Jocelyn Durant (Old Greenwich, CT/Berkshire) scored her first career goal off a pass from senior Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa). Neither team was able to connect in either 15-minute overtime period, with each goalkeeper stopping three shots on goal during the extra frames.

Freshman midfielder
Jocelyn Durant scored her
first career goal Saturday,
tying the score at 2 with just
1:25 to go in regulation.
Sophomore goalie Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) continued her strong play as she turned away 15 of the 17 shots Grinnell put on goal. Her record for the season, as well as the teams, now stands at 5-2-1.

Lake Forest will have to recover quickly from the marathon-like match as they host Beloit College in another MWC game Sunday (October 8th) afternoon at 1:00.
