RIPON, WI - The Forester women’s soccer team recorded a pair of convincing victories over fellow Midwest Conference opponents over the weekend (September 10-11). Lake Forest hosted and defeated Knox College 8-0 on Saturday before prevailing 6-0 at Ripon College on Sunday. The Foresters are now 3-0-0 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in the league.

Senior Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) put the home team ahead at the 1:40 mark of Saturday’s contest. She was assisted by sophomore Helen Eisenberg (Albuquerque, NM/Bosque School). Sophomore Marly Ashworth (Charlestown, NH/Fall Mountain Regional) and freshman Jaymie Honold (Kapolei, HI/Kapolei) scored unassisted goals at 16:45 and 27:45, respectively, and Honold added her second of the game at 39:09 off a pass from senior Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X).

Honold assisted freshman Katie Rice (Centennial, CO/Eaglecrest) at the 50:12 mark and Lopez scored from Stevenson at 57:28 to extend the lead to 6-0. Eisenberg’s first goal of the year was assisted by freshman Mallory Davis (Whitefish Bay, WI/Whitefish Bay) at 76:32 and junior Becca Bride (Wilmot, NH/Kearsarge Regional) closed out the scoring with 3:06 left in the contest off a pass from freshman Grace Dunford (Los Altos, CA/Homestead).

The Forester defense held the Prairie Fire with a shot. Junior goalkeeper Kristyne Operzedek (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) played the first half to earn the win and freshman Alison Lynch (Dunlap, IL/Peoria Notre Dame) took care of the second period. Lynch replaced Operzedek early on Sunday and recorded three saves in her second victory of the year.

Stevenson started the scoring at the 27:11 mark and assisted Rice 3:22 later. Just 3:25 passed before Ashworth’s second goal of the season made the score 3-0. Stevenson closed out the first half scoring at 38:22 with her fourth goal of the year.

Rice scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season off passes from Stevenson and Lopez at 47:34 and freshman Valentina Galli’s (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson) unassisted goal at 49:56 was the first tally of her career.

The Foresters will not play again until next Sunday’s (September 18) home game against MWC rival St. Norbert College. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
