Foresters’ Weekend Includes Pair of MWC Routs
Team defeats Knox and Ripon by a combined score of 16-1

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women’s soccer team recorded a 9-1 victory at Knox College on Saturday (September 11) and then returned home to shut out Ripon College 7-0 the following afternoon on the newly renovated Farwell Field. The Foresters are now 3-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in Midwest Conference games. Knox fell to 1-2-0 and Ripon to 0-4-0 in each team’s conference opener.

Junior Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) started the scoring barrage on in the sixth minute of Saturday’s game with her third goal of the season. Senior Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) earned the assist on Stevenson’s goal and scored the team’s second at 24:28. Freshman Elizabeth Huff (Dodgeville, WI/Dodgeville) notched her first career goal at 38:53.

Senior Erika Koesling (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch) had a hand in the Forester’s first three goals of the second half. She and junior Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X) assisted sophomore Allie Kabat (Hinsdale, IL/Hinsdale Township) on her first of the season just 28 seconds after intermission. Stevenson scored her second goal of the game off a Koesling assist at 47:20. Lopez then assisted Koesling at 54:55. Freshman Helen Eisenberg (Albuquerque, NM/ Bosque School) accounted for the next two scores at 57:27 and 74:00, the second off a pass from Fink, who recorded her second career four-point game. After Knox got on the scoreboard with less than four minutes to play, freshman Krista Kusinski (New London, NH/Kimball Union Academy) scored for the first time in her career just 32 seconds later off a pass from senior Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary).

Sophomore Kristyne Operzedek (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) recorded three saves and shut out the Prairie Fire for 70 minutes before giving way to freshman Sofia Pappas (Park Ridge, IL/Loyola Academy).

Operzedek played the first half and Pappas the second in the shutout of Ripon. Pappas had three of the duo’s five saves.

Lopez scored the game’s first goal on a penalty kick at the 8:46 mark and added the opening period’s other score off a pass from Fink at 17:49.

Fink would also assist on the team’s first goal of the second half, Stevenson’s third of the season at 53:17. McHugh then found the back of the net twice in a 2 minute, 11 second span off assists from Lopez and Koesling. Eisenberg got her third goal of the weekend at 81:23 from Kusinski and sophomore Angela Rubino (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) and Koesling put home a Kusinski pass with just three seconds remaining to close out the scoring.

The Foresters will be in action again on Saturday (September 18) at 1:00 at Lawrence University.
