Foresters Lose Defensive Battle at Lawrence
Vikings score game's only goal in 35th minute

Rachael LaFin saved five of six shots on goal at Lawrence.
APPLETON, WI - Last year, the Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated Lawrence University 1-0 at home to move into first place in the Midwest Conference and eventually claim the league title. Saturday (September 14), the Vikings returned the favor by defending their home field with a 1-0 victory over the Foresters.

The game's only goal was scored in the 35th minute by Lawrence's Alyssa Spyksma off a corner kick from Sara Compas. Katie Wilkin earned the shutout for the home team with seven saves.

Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) played well in the loss, officially tallying five saves while also helping to stop a number of Lawrence scoring opportunities.

A look at the game's stats reveals a very evenly-played game. Lake Forest took 15 shots while Lawrence took 16. Seven of the visitors' shots were on goal while just six from the Vikings were potential scores.

The loss drops the Foresters' overall record to 3-2-0 and their Midwest Conference mark to 1-1-0. It was Lawrence's first win of the year against three losses, all outside the league. Lake Forest will travel back to the same area of Wisconsin next Saturday (September 21) to take on fellow MWC foe St. Norbert College.
