LAFIN SHINES IN FORESTERS TIE WITH NORTH CENTRAL
Rachel LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West High
School) and Katherine Alho dualed for 120 minutes on Thursday afternoon
without the ball touching the net once. Lake Forest's LaFin, a freshman
starting just her third collegiate game, recorded 18 saves (two shy of
the school record) while North Central's Alho had 8 stops in the non-conference
affair. LaFin got the starting nod just minutes prior to the start of the
contest after projected started Brandi
Monroe (Punta Gorda, FL/Lockport Township H.S., IL) offered to be used
as a reserve forward due to a rash of Forester injuries and illnesses left
the team short-handed.
North Central had 27 shots compared to 14
for Lake Forest, 12 of which came from junior Kim
Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa H.S.) and sophomore Stacy
Gunstream (Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain H.S.). Lake Forest had many
opportunities, primarily in the first half, while North Central returned
the favor in the second half when they kept possession of the ball for
the majority of the second 45 minutes.
Lake Forest, now 1-1-1 in home openers under
Head
Coach T.R. Bell, will take their 1-1-1 overall record back to Midwest
Conference action this weekend, when the host Knox on Saturday and St.
Norbert on Sunday. The Foresters are currently 1-1 in the MWC.
