Lake Forest Shuts Out Knox and Albion at Home over the Weekend
Foresters outscore their guests by a combined score of 10-0

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women’s soccer team routed Knox College 8-0 at home on Saturday (September 15) and blanked visiting Albion College 2-0 on Sunday (September 16). Lake Forest is now 4-1-1 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in Midwest Conference play. Knox fell to 0-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference while Albion’s first loss of the year dropped their record to 5-1-1.

The Foresters scored four times in the first eight-plus minutes against Knox. Freshman Mackenzie Yates (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Preparatory School) started things off just 90 seconds into the contest off an assist from sophomore Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax,Va./James W. Robinson). Yates then assisted freshman Bianca Greene’s (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) second goal of the season a minute later and Greene returned the favor at 7:50. Junior Katie Rice (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) found the back of the net for the third time this year at 8:03 with freshman Christine Sorensen (Norton Shores, Mich./Grand Haven) earning the assist.

The home team added three more first half goals in a san of just over four minutes. Freshman Emily Weber (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills Upper School) scored her second of the season at 28:11 off a pass from senior Marly Ashworth (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional). Freshman Molly Shaw (Holladay, Utah/Olympus) then converted a penalty kick opportunity at 30:03 for her first career goal and sophomore Liz Zink (Hudson, Ohio/Our Lady of Elms) also netted her first career goal at 32:20 off a pass from senior Brittany MacLeod (Gorham, Maine/Gorham).

Junior Jaymie Honold (Kapolei, Hawaii/Kapolei) closed out the scoring with her first goal of the season at 52:23. She was assisted by sophomore Monica Thomas (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos).

Junior goalkeeper Alison Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) played the entire first half to earn the victory. Sophomore Julie Maskulka (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) recorded the Foresters’ only save of the game during her 30 minutes on the field and freshman Kate Szweda (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Beaumont School) kept the shutout intact for the final 15 minutes.

Yates also scored the first goal on Sunday against Albion. The unassisted score in the 29th minute was her team-high sixth of the year and third game winner. Maneval then knocked in a corner kick from Honold at 35:14 to close out the scoring. It was Maneval’s second score of the season.

Lynch recorded five saves in the complete game shutout, her eighth in 14 career starts. She is now 4-1-1 on the year with a 0.57 goals against average.

The Foresters will host Illinois Wesleyan University Wednesday (September 19) at 4:30 p.m. before resuming conference play on Sunday (September 23) at home against St. Norbert College.
