Hat Trick by Coutts helps Foresters to 7-1 Win over Knox
Sponsel adds a goal and an assist

GALESBURG, IL - The Lake Forest College Women's Soccer Team rebounded quickly from their first loss of the season Saturday (September 16th) with a convincing 7-1 victory over Knox College on Sunday (September 17th).

Junior forward Sandi Coutts (Round Lake, IL/College of Lake County) started the scoring for the Foresters in the 12th minute with a goal assisted by junior midfielder Staci Gunstream (Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain). By the end of the game Coutts had two more goals (her 5th and 6th of the season), Gunstream had another assist (5 on the year) and senior midfielder Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa) had one of each. Senior midfielder Erin Sovick (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre), sophomore forward Frances Hensely (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) and junior midfielder Jenny Berthiaume (West St. Paul, MN/Simley) also scored goals for Lake Forest while freshman midfielder Stephanie Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) earned her 4th assist of 2000.

Defensively, the Foresters were also strong, as Knox was only able to get free for 4 shots in the game and zero in the first half. Sophomore goalie Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) allowed just one goal for the fourth time in five games this year, raising her record and the team's to 4-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Midwest Conference.

The team will travel to North Central College on Wednesday (September 27th) to play the only night game on their 2000 schedule. Play will begin at 7:00 PM and it will be the 4th of six consecutive away games for Lake Forest.
