Lake Forest Wins Season Opener 7-0 at Concordia Chicago
Katie Rice and Mackenzie Yates score two goals apiece

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Forester women’s soccer team began 2007 by blanking host Concordia University Chicago 7-0 on Sunday (September 2). It was the program’s ninth consecutive season-opening victory and fourth win in as many tries all-time against the Cougars.

Lake Forest sophomore Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax,Va./James W. Robinson) scored the game’s first goal just 42 seconds in to the contest. Junior Katie Rice (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) doubled the lead with a score at 11:53 off an assist from classmate Mallory Davis (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay). Freshman Mackenzie Yates (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Preparatory School) converted a penalty kick opportunity at 30:16 and followed it up with her second goal of the game at 37:25. She was assisted by senior Krista Kusinski (New London, N.H./Kimball Union Academy).

The Foresters scored even sooner in the second half than they did in the first when Rice notched her second goal of the game just 36 seconds into the period off an assist from Jaymie Honold (Kapolei, Hawaii/Kapolei). Honold also assisted freshman Bianca Greene’s (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) first career goal at 60:42. The final tally of the game came off the foot of sophomore Monica Thomas (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) at 64:14 with senior Marly Ashworth (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) earning the assist.

Junior goalkeeper Alison Lynch (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) held the Cougars scoreless in the first half to earn the victory. Sophomore Julie Maskulka (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) recorded the team’s only save of the game during her 30:32 on the field and freshman Kate Szweda (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Beaumont School) played the contest’s final 14:28.

Lake Forest will travel to Concordia University (Wis.) Tuesday afternoon for a 5:00 match and to Milwaukee School of Engineering Thursday night for a 7:00 game under the lights.
