MEQUON, WI - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team raised its record on the year to 5-1-1 with a 3-1 victory at Concordia University (WI) Tuesday (September 23) evening. The team had won its first four games of 2003 before suffering its only loss last Tuesday (September 16) and recording a tie on Saturday (September 20). Concordia fell to 4-5-0 on the season.

The Falcons got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Rachel Borland approximately 30 minutes into the contest. The home team was held scoreless the rest of the way by the Forester defense and freshman goalkeeper Kristyne Operzedek (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield), who tallied nine saves in the contest.

Sophomore forward Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) tied the score in the first minute of the second half with her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Senior forward Aviva Landin (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) was credited with the assist. Landin put the Foresters ahead just five minutes later with her fifth goal of the year off a pass from Stevenson, who later recorded her team-high seventh assist of 2003 on an insurance goal by junior forward Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary).

Lake Forest lost to Concordia the first time the teams played in 1999 but has defeated the Falcons in each of the four seasons since then.

The Foresters will put their 1-0-1 Midwest Conference record on the line in their next contest, a home game against Lawrence University on Saturday (September 27) at 1:00 p.m. Lawrence is 2-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.
