NAPERVILLE, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team opened its 2002 season with a 2-0 shutout at North Central College Tuesday (September 5). The game was played under the lights at Cardinal Stadium, the same place that Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire play their home games this season.

After a scoreless first half, the Foresters finally got on the scoreboard when freshman midfielder Breanne Kuenzi (Las Vegas, NV/Bonanza) scored the first goal of her career and the team's first of 2002. The score came off a pass from sophomore midfielder Carinn Rasak (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe Prepoaratory), who later assisted another freshman midfielder, Melissa Stevenson (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge), on her first career goal.

Two goals was more than enough for senior goalkeeper Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) to notch the shutout. Lake Forest's defense appears to have picked up where it left off in 2001, when five of the Foresters' final eight opponents were unable to score.

The Foresters will play their home opener on Thursday (September 5) at 4:30 p.m. against Concordia University (WI). On Saturday (September 7), Lake Forest will begin defense of its Midwest Conference crown at Knox College.
