LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women's soccer team has started its 2002 season with a pair of shutouts after an 8-0 victory over Concordia University (WI) at home Thursday (September 5). Dating back to last October, only three of the team's last ten opponents have managed to score even one goal against the stingy Forester defense.

Although they did not see many shots, Lake Forest's three goalkeepers, senior Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) and freshmen Bethany Aicken (Louisville, KY/Butler Traditional) and Melissa Guillermo (North Las Vegas, NV/Culver Academy), all saw action as the last line of defense against the Falcons. Aicken had the only save of the game for Lake Forest as it out-shot Concordia 35-3.

In the 16th minute, sophomore midfielder Carinn Rasak (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe Prepoaratory) scored the game's first goal when her corner kick hooked around the post, over the goalie, and into the net.

The Foresters' second, fourth, sixth, and eighth goals of the game came off the foot of freshman midfielder Tanya Lopez (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X). Her four goals is just one short of the Lake Forest College school record, set by Jessica Wiehrdt in 1997.

Sophomores Lauren McHugh (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary), Erika Koesling (Lindenhurst, IL/Antioch), and Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central) also scored for Lake Forest, who led 5-0 at halftime.

The Foresters begin defense of their Midwest Conference championship on Saturday (September 7) when they travel to Knox College for a 1:00 p.m. game. The team will then host North Park University next Wednesday (September 11) at 4:30 p.m.
