Forest Take Season Opener 3-1 Over North Park
Three Foresters score and
LaFin snares seven saves
LAKE FOREST - The Lake Forest
women's soccer squad opened their 2000 season in impressive fashion with
a convincing 3-1 win over visiting North Park University of Thursday (September
7th). It was the Foresters' first-ever win over North Park after losses
in 1997 and 1999.
Junior newcomer Sandi
Coutts (Round Lake, IL/College of Lake County) scored the season's
first goal on a give-and-go from sophomore Frances
Hensley (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) just 2:41 into the contest.
Senior Beth
Kohr (Franklin, OH/Franklin) gave the Foresters a 2-0 advantage at
the 13:38 mark (assisted by freshman Stephanie
Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central)).
North Park pulled within a goal in
the game's 49th minute off a penalty kick goal by Melissa Koster.

Stacy
Gunstream moved into ninth place all-time
for
career assists at LF.

Lake Forest
added an insurance goal in the 77th minute when senior co-captain Erin
Sovick (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) scored off the 11th career assist
from junior co-captain Stacy
Gunstream (Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain). The assist moved Gunstream,
who led the Midwest Conference in assists as a freshman, into a tie for
ninth place on the Forester's all-time career assists list.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rachael
LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) went all 90 minutes, allowing
one goal with seven saves. Randi Novak had 13 saves for North Park.
Lake Forest, now 1-0-0 on the season,
out-shot North Park, who fell to 0-3-0, 35 to 13 for the game.
The Foresters will begin play in
the Midwest Conference on Saturday (September 9th) when they host Ripon
College at 2:00 as the second half of a men-women doubleheader. |
