Lake Forest Take Season Opener 3-1 Over North Park
Three Foresters score and LaFin snares seven saves

LAKE FOREST - The Lake Forest women's soccer squad opened their 2000 season in impressive fashion with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting North Park University of Thursday (September 7th). It was the Foresters' first-ever win over North Park after losses in 1997 and 1999.

Junior newcomer Sandi Coutts (Round Lake, IL/College of Lake County) scored the season's first goal on a give-and-go from sophomore Frances Hensley (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) just 2:41 into the contest.

Senior Beth Kohr (Franklin, OH/Franklin) gave the Foresters a 2-0 advantage at the 13:38 mark (assisted by freshman Stephanie Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary Central)).

North Park pulled within a goal in the game's 49th minute off a penalty kick goal by Melissa Koster.

Stacy Gunstream moved into ninth place all-time
for career assists at LF.
Lake Forest added an insurance goal in the 77th minute when senior co-captain Erin Sovick (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) scored off the 11th career assist from junior co-captain Stacy Gunstream (Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain). The assist moved Gunstream, who led the Midwest Conference in assists as a freshman, into a tie for ninth place on the Forester's all-time career assists list.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachael LaFin (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) went all 90 minutes, allowing one goal with seven saves. Randi Novak had 13 saves for North Park.

Lake Forest, now 1-0-0 on the season, out-shot North Park, who fell to 0-3-0, 35 to 13 for the game.

The Foresters will begin play in the Midwest Conference on Saturday (September 9th) when they host Ripon College at 2:00 as the second half of a men-women doubleheader.
