FORESTERS HONORED AT FALL SPORTS BANQUET
At the Lake Forest College Fall Sports Banquet, the Forester women's tennis program handed out their end-of-the-season awards. Junior Shannon Sobieski (Fox Point, WI/Nicolet H.S.) was named the team's Most Valuable Player and sophomore Jamie Irons (Neenah, WI/Neenah H.S.) collected Most Improved Player honors.
Sobieski, playing from the No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles slots, produced a 13-5 overall record in singles play and a 13-5 record in doubles action with partner Irons. Sobieski was also the team's MVP in 1997.
Besides teaming with Sobieski at  No. 2 doubles, Irons recorded a 17-2 overall record in singles play from her No. 4 position. Her winning percentage of .889 was the highest on the team of those who played more than five matches on the season. Irons concluded her season by winning a conference title at No. 4 singles.
Head Coach Chris Conger also handed out Academic All-Conference awards to Irons and Sobieski, and Forester Athlete of the Week certificates to Sobieski and freshman Angie Kral (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central H.S.). Kral won a conference title at No. 4 singles and paired with senior Elizabeth King (Marengo, IL/Marengo Community H.S.) to win another title at No. 3 doubles.
In 1999, Lake Forest won the school's first-ever conference team championship and won a school record 14 dual matches with just 3 losses.
