Lake Forest Defeats Beloit and Robert Morris on Consecutive Days
Foresters finish 2008 with 7-7 dual match record

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women's tennis team finished off its 2008 dual match schedule with a 5-4 victory over Beloit College on Thursday (Octoner 9) and a 8-1 triumph over visiting Robert Morris College on Friday (October 10). Lake Forest completed the year with a 7-7 record. Beloit fell to 6-10 and Robert Morris to 2-7.

The match against Beloit began in Lake Forest on September 24 and was suspended due by rain. The Foresters won two of the three doubles matches that day, as well as the only completed singles match. Freshman Nonie Carson (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) and junior Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) prevailed 8-4 at #2 doubles and the #3 team of junior Viri Del Bosque (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) and sophomore Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) won by the same score. Sophomore Deepika Ramachandran (Mumbai, India/Mahindra United World College) posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #6 singles.

The contest was continued at Johnsburg High School in Johnsburg, Illinois, on Thursday. The Foresters fell at the top three spots in the singles lineup but preailed as a team thanks to a 6-3, 6-0 victory by sophomore Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) and a 6-3, 6-4 triumph by freshman Sara Bennett () at #4 and #5, respectively.

Lake Forest swept the three doubes matches on Friday with Bennett teaming with senior Anne Demere (Savannah, Ga./Saint Vincent's Academy) for an 8-4 victory at #1, Carson and Stapleton prevailing by the same margin at #2, and Del Bosque winning 8-2 with sophomore Michelle Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) at #3.

Freshman Allison Hamel (Bend, Ore./Bend) won 6-2 in both sets at #2 singles. Stapleton and Lauren Stroner posted 8-1 victories at #3 and #4, resectively. Bennett triumphed 6-4, 6-2 at #5 and Ramachandran rounded things out with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #6.

The Foresters will finish their season at the Midwest Conference Tournament next weekend (October 18-19). Doubles tournaments will be contested on Saturday and singles on Sunday.
